Close To Home Adventures: Couch Travelling


      For this week's close to home you don't even have to leave the couch.  To couch travel, all you need is something to read.  Today we'll go over some of the options out there that can transport you across the world without ever leaving home.



Crazy Guy On A Bike

      Crazyguyonabike.com is home to the travel journals of adventurers who explore the world by bike. Journals can follow trips as small as a week to multi-year journeys across the globe.  Journals can be searched based on the local being travelled, the type of bike being used, by route, and even by unique journey features such as "offroad" or "winter touring" or "solo women."  For whatever type of bike touring experience you are looking to read about, there is a good chance you can find it on this site.

Trail Journals

      Like Crazyguyonbike.com this site contains journals from world travellers, however instead of focusing on bike trips it focuses on backpacking trips.  The most frequently written about hike is the appalachian trail however journals can be found for all kinds of hikes from New Zealand tracks to European Pilgramage routes.

Travel Adventure Literature

      If you don't have one of these books, take a trip to the travel section of your local bookstore, or your internet bookstore if you are looking to stay on the couch.  These are books that recount the adventures of the writers as stories.

Coffee Table Books

      Coffee table travel books often present a snapshot look at many kinds of adventures.  They give basic information about many different travel locations and usually include breathtaking pictures that more than likely will get you jumping off the couch and heading out the door.

Travel Magazines

      For your monthly dose of couch traveling consider subscribing to a travel magazine.  Many of them exist, from National Geographic to Luxery Travel magazines that can show you how the richest travel. Not interested in subscribing, or want to scope them out before choosing one?  Most have online websites with plenty of interesting travel articles to get you started.
